Sevilla confirm free Fernando Llorente signing from Juventus
Europa League holders Sevilla confirmed the signing of striker Fernando Llorente on Thursday on a free transfer from Italian champions Juventus.
Madrid: Europa League holders Sevilla confirmed the signing of striker Fernando Llorente on Thursday on a free transfer from Italian champions Juventus.
"Sevilla FC have signed Fernando Llorente on Thursday, who arrives in Nervion as a free agent after having reached an agreement for the recision of his contract with Juventus," Sevilla said in a statement published on their website.
"The Spanish international striker will be tied to the club for the next three seasons and has a 20 million euro buyout clause."
Llorente joined Juventus on a free transfer from Athletic Bilbao two years ago and went on to win back-to-back Serie A titles, as well as playing a role as the Bianconeri reached the Champions League final last season.
However, he has seen his first-team opportunities limited by the arrival of Alvaro Morata, Mario Mandzukic and Paulo Dybala over the past two summers.
Sevilla were in need of attacking reinforcements after the sale of their top scorer for the past two seasons, Carlos Bacca, to AC Milan for the 30 million euros in June.
Llorente has scored seven goals in 23 games for Spain and was part of the squads that won the 2010 World Cup and 2012 European Championships.
The 30-year-old hasn`t featured for the national team in two years, but could force his way back into Spain coach Vicente del Bosque`s plans for the European Championships in France next year with an impressive season back in La Liga.
