Karachi: In a tragic incident, Shahlyla Baloch, member of Pakistan's women's football team, died in a fatal car accident in Karachi on Wednesday night.
Baloch was sitting in the passenger seat when the accident occurred in Karachi’s DHA Phase VIII area, her family confirmed to The Express Tribune.
“It is true that she passed away,” a family member said.
The family member further added that “she was travelling in the passenger seat, and the car slid.”
Just 20, Baloch was widely regarded as one of the finest strikers for Pakistan women’s football team.
She represented the country at the South Asian Football Federation Women Football Championship 2014 in Islamabad, which was the last international event that Pakistan women’s team competed in.
She created history for Pakistan earlier by becoming the first Pakistani woman to score a hat-trick abroad during her stint in Maldives.
She also made the score sheet in Pakistan’s 4-1 victory over Bhutan in 2014 SAFF Women’s Championship.
