A knee injury will keep Spain defender Carlos Puyol out for around six weeks, meaning the defending champions will miss the services of the 34-year-old for Euro 2012.
According to Barcelona FC, the defender will undergo an arthroscopy on his right knee on Saturday, with an estimated recovery time of six weeks.
After the Euro 2008 and World Cup title, Spain will become the first national team to win three competitions in a row should they win the 2012 edition. With 99 caps, this tournament could be the last one for the Spaniard after having persuaded against retiring soon after their World Cup victory.
