Shillong: Sporting Clube de Goa brightened their qualification hopes with a facile 2-0 victory over Ar-Hima in their second division I-League match.
Bisheshwor Singh drew first blood in the 12th minute while Jovel Martins doubled the margin in the 22nd minute as Sporting jumped to the fifth spot with five points after the round IV encounter at the Polo Ground.
Ar-Hima, who put up a lacklustre display, moved down to the fourth place with six points.
Bisheshwor put Sporting ahead when he placed his right footer to perfection.
Barely ten minutes later, Jovel capitalised on a defensive lapse to double the lead, as Sporting went into the breather enjoying a two-goal cushion.
Spurred on by a hostile crowd, Ar-Hima came back with purpose in the second half. But they were denied by acrobatic Sporting goalkeeper Gerard d`Mello on a number of occasions, not to mention the defenders who held fort.
Sporting take on Kolkata`s Mohammedan Sporting in their next match on May 7 while Ar-Hima lock horns with Vasco a day later.
