Sporting eyeing full points against Chirag United Kerala

Margao: Sporting who have not lost a single match so far is eyeing full points when they take on Chirag United Kerala on Saturday in the sixth round of the I-League, to keep their winning momentum, at the Nehru Stadium here.

Sporting`s attacking style of play saw them score 12 goals from five matches positioning them at the sixth spot with nine points from two wins and three draw.

James Moga who is the leading scorer along with Dempo`s Ranty Martins with eight goals each is the main stay in the Sporting attack.

His absence in the last match against AIFF young guns Pailan Arrows because of double booking was felt as they lacked the killer instinct to deliver the final blow inspite of their dominance upfront after Pailan Arrows rear guard put up a disciple performance to hold Sporting to a goalless draw.

But with Moga returning back after a match suspension, Sporting attack looked more sharper along with young Victorino Fernandes who has impressed in the earlier matches.

Sporting`s only worry is their defense who left a lot of gap while going up to assist their upfront which saw them concede nine goals.

Sporting defence will be weaker in the absence of Rojen Singh and Jovel Martins who are out due to double booking and the opponents have a good chance to exploit their weakness.

Sporting coach Ekendra Singh has admitted that his defence will be weakened in their absence. "But we have others to fill their gap," he said.

"Chirag is a good side. Although they have not fared well so far, they have good foreigners and we respect them. We will play our usual style of attacking game and hopefully win to keep the team spirit going," he said.

Chirag United Kerala who are going into tomorrow`s match with a win and four losses are placed eleventh with three points and need to put up a collective effort if they are to win tomorrow against their rivals who will exploit the home advantage.

Chirag`s Sri Lankan coach Packer Ali is confident that his team will do well to collect full points.

"We played well against Dempo in the last match but our strikers let us down as they failed to convert the chances that came their way. On the other hand, Ranty Martins made the difference for Dempo as he struck two decisive blows which made the difference."

"Sporting is a good side and playing well at the moment but we are ready to play against them tomorrow and expecting a close fight," stated Ali.
