Sporting look for revenge against Mumbai FC

Margao: Sporting Clube de Goa would be looking to take revenge when they lock horns with Mumbai FC in the 16th round of the I-League football championship at Nehru stadium on Monday.

Goan outfit had earlier suffered a defeat at the hands of Mumbai FC in the first leg of the tournament in an away match. Sporting though started their second leg well, winning both matches against Pailan Arrows and Mohun Bagan to take their tally to 20 points from 15 matches and place themselves at eighth spot in the table. Having defeated Bagan, Sporting are expected to be high on confidence for tomorrow`s game. "The win against Bagan came at the right time as the team was going through a lean patch. It should do a lot of good to the team`s morale," said Sporting coach Ekendra Singh. "We are aware Mumbai FC have beaten us in the away match, but at the moment they are going through a lean phase and we should take advantage of it and hit them hard," he added. Boboi Singh and Rowllin Borges, who got injured in the last match, will not play tomorrow while rest of the team will remain the same. "The boys are upbeat and rearing to go. We want to win as many matches as we can from now on and are looking forward to collect full points as it is our home match," said Singh. Meanwhile, Mumbai FC have lost a few back-to-back matches, going down to Chirag United, Salgaocar and Pune FC in their last three ties, to languish at 11th spot with 14 points from 15 matches. And coach Khalid Jamil admitted the team would have to play with conviction tomorrow. "We need to work harder, create chances and convert them effectively. Last time we played them, we won. But that is past. We have to play with conviction as our opponent have the advantage of playing at home," he said. Mumbai FC will miss Keegan Pereira due to red card but the rest of the team will remain the same. PTI
