Sporting ready for challenge against East Bengal

Margao: Sporting clube de Goa are all geared up to take on East Bengal when they both clash on Sunday in the eight round of the I-League at Nehru stadium here.

Sporting, going in Sunday’s match after suffering their first defeat against Mumbai FC, are placed sixth with 12 points. East Bengal who hammered HAL 8-1 are separated by one point and placed fourth with 13 points.

Sporting will be fielding the same team that played against Mumbai FC.

Sporting`s assistant coach Alex Alvares is ruing the defeat at the hands of Mumbai FC.

He said that the team played well in the second half but missed handful of scoring chances. No team that want to win can miss chances and if we want to win Sunday against East Bengal we need to convert the half chances, he said.

"I know it is a big challenge but we have to face them with courage if we are to win tomorrow. The boys are all geared up and motivated for the same," stated Alvares.

"They have a good striker in Tolgay Ozbey who can tear any defence if given space as seen in the last game where he scored four goals against HAL and we are aware of the threat and we have adopted a strategy to counter him," stated Alvares.
