Subroto Cup officials to honour Rio Olympic qualifiers: Report Inderjeet Singh

New Delhi: A charity event has been organised by the Subroto Cup officials who have also decided to honour athletes Inderjeet Singh, Manish Rawat and Narsingh Pancham Yadav for Rio Olympics qualification.

According to a report in the Times of India, the athletes will be present on behalf of the entire Olympic team. It was not clear whether the committee will provide monetary benefits to the Olympic team.

Football legend Pele, who has arrived in the capital on Wednesday, is the ambassador for the Subroto Cup final on Friday, October 16. Reports claim that the charity event will bank on Pele's marketability.

The former world legend is expected to autograph items that will be auctioned at the event. It has been also learnt that the money will be used for grassroots football in the country. It will also not be shared with football head body AIFF.

An organiser of the event told the Times of India, “We will use the money the best way we see fit. This competition is into its 56th year and you can see the number of players who have participated in this event and then gone on to represent the national team. We want it to become even better.”
