Tata Tea team wins Under-15 crown in Arsenal tourney

Mumbai: Arsenal Tata Tea Jaago Re Soccer Stars (ATTJRSS) outfit has won the under-15 title at the 21st International Soccer Festival conducted by the Premier League Club, in which, 126 teams from 12 countries contested.

It was a roller-coaster ride for the Tata Tea team at the Arsenal tournament in England that it won by defeating Forest Royal (Essex) 1-0 in the final to lift the U-15 AISF Cup 2011, the match-winner scored by Sushil Maitei, said a media release.

Sushil also emerged as the winner among 35 participants in "Tricks & Flicks" contest.

Having lost two of their matches initially, the team found itself on the brink of crashing out in the first round itself before outclassing Marks Park from South Africa 3-0 in must-win tie and qualifying for the Main Plate.

There was no looking back from then for the Tata Tea outfit in its fourth season as it swept past New Windsor Heronstop (top ranked team in the group) and Flying Eagles (USA) with identical 2-1 margins to reach the final.

The 16-member team was selected from the 7000-odd budding footballers, spread across 1,000 schools in 15 cities, who participated in the talent hunt from 1,000 schools.

The team received coaching from former Iranian international Jamshid Nassiri and Andrew Douglas - Head of the Arsenal Soccer School in UK.
