London: Ron Gourlay, Chelsea`s chief executive has said striker Fernando Torres should have kept the timings in mind before publicly revealing his frustration over being left out on the bench in their Champions League victory over Bayern Munich.

The Spain international claimed after hours of achieving European glory that starting on the substitutes` bench that night represented ‘perhaps the biggest disappointment of my life’.

Torres, who has scored 12 goals for Chelsea in 67 matches, also called for clarity from the club`s management as to what role he is to play in the future.

Gourlay said Torres’ comments were a result of an emotional outburst, and just shows his urge to play more. He won’t get sanctioned for his comments.

No meeting is planned with either Torres, who has since departed for a holiday on Ibiza ahead of linking up with the Spain squad, or his representative, though there was disappointment among club officials that such a high-profile player should potentially sour the otherwise festive mood.

“Everybody wants to play and I would be very surprised if Fernando [hadn`t],’ a daily quoted Gourlay, as saying.

“I`m sure he wanted to play more games, and more time on the field as every professional player does. But it`s the emotion of the time as well, the biggest day in our history. You`ve got to take these things into account,” he added.
