London: Manchester United is closing in on FC Porto 25 million pound rated attacking midfielder Joao Moutinho after getting fed up of Tottenham Hotspurs’ tactics to retain star midfielder Luka Modric.
Modric was believed to be United manager Sir Alex Ferguson’s number one target after they relinquished their title to local neighbours Manchester City last season.
United were ready to bid 25 million pounds rising to 30 million pounds, but Spurs have now quoted 40 million pounds for the Croatian and United will not pay that, a newspaper reported.
Now, United is understood to have approached Porto with a view to signing their attacking midfielder.
Moutinho would follow Ronaldo and Nani on the successful track from Portugal to Old Trafford if the deal goes through.
