Shillong: Vasco Sports Club are in the driving seat after defeating Royal Wahingdoh FC 3-2 in the round three match of the second division I-league.
With this win, Vasco are enjoying the top slot in the points tally with nine points from three matches followed by Shillong Lajong and Ar-Hima with seven and six points respectively from as many matches.
The blend of Vasco strikers Koko Sakibo and Sachin Gawas kept the local defense line busy and the pair got the break in the 33rd minute of the game.
It was Sachin`s cross ball that Koko headed home to open the account for the Goans.
Six minute later, referee Ajit Dutta of West Bengal awarded a spot kick after he caught Vasco`s Julius Akpele handling the ball inside the 24 yard arena. Taking the shot, Wahingdoh skipper Malsawmtluanga made no mistake to find the target and equalise the game.
Joel Siqueira, in the 42nd minute of the game, gave the lead to the tourists when he converted Koko`s cross pass. Four minute later, it was again unmarked Koko on receiving the ball into the goal area from Sachin netted the match winner.In the 58th minute, Wahingdoh`s Bijender Rai headed the cross ball from T Jackichand Singh and made the score card read 3-2.
In the second match of the day, Southern Samity split points with Sporting Clube de Goa after they played 1-1 draw.
It was the Goan`s who opened the account in the very first minute when Eldon Maquemba tabbed the headed volley from Bidemi Daniel.However, Samity`s Brazilian recruit Edmilson Marques in the 40th minute taking a free kick equalised the match. Edmilson made his first appearance today after serving three match suspensions.
