New Delhi: Dutch international Memphis Depay holds the key for Manchester United in the attacking half and his versatility could be pivotal for manager Louis van Gaal. Memphis who arrived from PSV this summer has already impressed in his first two tour games in the USA.
Playing as the No. 10 behind Wayne Rooney in a 4-2-3-1 formation, Depay scored against San Jose Earthquakes on Wednesday as United cruised to a 3-1 victory.

The youngster who is highly rated gives Gaal options on the pitch on several positions. Depay has been handed the No. 9 shirt and Gaal suggested that he could be used as a striker in the absence of Rooney.
Memphis scored 21 goals for PSV last term and is actually a highly skilled winger who can play as both striker and in the No. 10 role. United have three strikers in their kitty after the exits of Radamel Falcao and Robin van Persie. The club is in search for a forward and a host of possibilities are linked with a move. With Depay's productivity, Gaal could be tempted to use him in that position.
United have several options on the wings with likes of Ashley Young, Juan Mata, Angel Di Maria and Andreas Pereira. Belgian youngster Adnan Janujaz and midfielder Marouane Fellaini are touted to be used more as No. 10 this season. Janujaz was used as an winger last term and is likely to be drafted back in his usual position.
United are expected to use 4-3-3, 4-1-4-1 and a 4-2-3-1 formation this term and Gaal's tactical brilliance will be key here on which player he uses where. With a lot of competition for places, Depay can be instrumental with his goal scoring attributes which will please Louis van Gaal.
