Kozhikode: Hosts Viva Kerala managed to earn
a lifeline by defeating Shillong`s Lajong FC 2-1 in their last
leg home match of the ONGC I-League here today.
By virtue of the win, the Kerala team, placed at 11th
spot after 24 rounds, bettered its chances of saving itself
from relegation. Viva is slated to play two more matches later
Viva Kerala scored its first goal through P Rahul, who
slotted in a pass from Sirajuddeen, after wasting two golden
chances in the initial minutes of play.
The Kerala outfit doubled their lead in the second half
through C S Sabeeth, who scored in the 58th minute from T
Karma`s lovely pass.
But Lajong reduced the margin barely two minutes later
from a James Gbilee goal.
Viva Kerala will next take on Mohun Bagan in their last
home match here on May 11.
