London: Swansea City winger Wayne Routledge has signed a one-year contract extension that ties him to the Liberty Stadium until 2018, manager Garry Monk revealed on Thursday.
The technically accomplished 29-year-old winger arrived from Newcastle United in 2011 following unfulfilling stints at a succession of clubs, but he has become a mainstay of the Swansea team.
"He deserves (the new contract) because in my time here he`s probably been our most consistent performer and he`s still performing," Monk told a press conference.
"His time before coming here was well documented, but he`s now found a home, somewhere he can be himself.
"He`ll admit himself a little bit he rebelled at times as a youngster, but I think he never clicked at clubs where he felt he could express himself. Perhaps he was unsure of what he was capable of, but here he`s had that freedom and guidance to be better."
