London: Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger believes his team can still finish in top four and acquire a spot in the Champions League next season.
Wenger has never failed to lead Arsenal into the Champions League during his tenure at the club but this year his proud record is in a serious jeopardy.
He is concerned with Arsenal dropping down to seventh in the Barclays Premier League table after collecting one point from the last 12 available but believes his team could have won them.
“Of course I am confident of top four finish. There is a long way to go. I`m confident we can come back. We have come through a difficult period. We lost three league games but could have won them as well,” The Daily Mail quoted Wenger, as saying.
Arsenal played out a dull goalless draw at the Reebok Stadium last night against Bolton in a Premier League encounter.
He also stressed on the need to have fit players in the squad and also refused to elaborate the condition of mid fielder Jack Wilshere, who is expected to miss this season after suffering a setback during training.
“It is important we don`t have more injuries. Wilshere? I don`t know any more than you. You want your best players available when you go into February in the Champions League, the FA Cup and you want to come back into the top four you want your best players available. Of course it`s frustrating,” he added.
