Women’s World Cup: France crush Canada to eye QF

Bochum: France crushed Canada 4-0 with two goals from Gaetane Thiney to move to the brink of a quarter-final place at the women`s World Cup in Germany.

The 25-year-old Thiney headed in from close range after 24 minutes and added another with a thundering 20-metre strike before goals from Camille Abily and Elodie Tomis condemned Canada to a second successive defeat in the tournament. France have six points from two Group A games and will qualify for the last eight along with Germany if the hosts beat Nigeria later on Thursday.
