World Cup 2014 semi-final: Brazil vs Germany - As it happened...

In the most extraordinary World Cup match in history, Germany demolished Brazil 7-1. They are the first team to progress to the final and await the winner of the Netherlands and Argentina match. Miroslav Klose scored his 16th goal in the World Cup making him the highest scorer ever in the finals. Brazil will play the lose of the second semifinal in a third place play-off. He cuts in from the left beating Boateng, makes his way to the middle and shots. Neuer came out but could not prevent the goal from going inside the back of his net. 89'- Pass played into Ozil has him through on goal. He is one one one with the keeper with Schurrle for support. He drags his shot just wide off the upright. 88'- Willian's though ball set Oscar behind the German defense. He receives the ball on the left inside the box, steadies himself. He shoots using the outside of his boot but the ball goes out. 87'- Marcelo misses the ball and Schurrle has the ball. He cuts the ball in the middle but Dante clears it out for a corner. 84'- Ramires picks up the ball and tries to score a consolation goal. His effort from distance was saved by Neuer by going down on his knees and making a safe collection near the upright. 83'- Germany continue passing the ball around effortlessly. Brazil fans now chanting Ole as Germans play keep ball. 81'- Fair to say even Heidi Klum is thrilled to bits with that scoreline. 79'- GOAL! SCHURRLE Muller pulled out a long ball near the corner flag and fired in a cross. Schurrle who was the only player in the middle, struck a left footed volley from a tight angle despite David Luiz marking him. The ball hit the underside of the crossbar and made its way into the net. 75'- Germany make another change. Young Julian Draxler comes on for Sami Khedira. 72'- Just as the Germans were celebrating that goal, Scolari took off Fred and replaced him with Willian. Fred was booed loudly by home fans as soon as his face appeared on the giant screen. 69'- GOAL! SCHURRLE Khedira plays the ball to Lahm on the right. He cuts the ball in the middle and Schurrle finishes with his right foot. If he missed, Muller was right next to him. 66'- Germany were through on goal again with two players behind the Brazil defense. Cesar acts as sweeper and comes out with a sliding challenge to prevent Schurrle from scoring. 64'- Fred is being booed by the home crowd. Every time he gets a touch on the ball, there are jeers inside the stadium. 61'- Luiz plays in a ball over the German defense. Maicon comes around the back and takes the ball down. A challenge comes in and the ball goes out for a corner. Maicon goes down theatrically to appeal for a penalty. Germans are furious with his antics. Nothing given though. 60'- Khedira has the ball on the left. He cuts inside and plays a sideways ball to Muller who shifts the ball on his left foot and fires a shot from outside the box. Cesar tips it over. 59'- Muller was though on goal and he tried to round off the keeper. But Cesar managed to push the ball out for a corner. 58'- Germany take off record goalscorer Miroslav Klose and bring on Andre Schurrle. 56'- England cricketer Kevin Pietersen has some advice for the Brazil team. The obvious reference here is the 5-0 Ashes whitewash that got him dropped from the side. 53'- NEUER WITH A DOUBLE SAVE! INCREDIBLE Germany were cut open by the Brazil with Paulinho through on goal. He fired is left shot from inside the box on the volley. Neuer saved that with his body but the rebound fell straight back to Paulinho again. He fired another powerful shot and Neuer saved again with his hand before his face. 51'- Neuer denies Oscar. The German pulls off a great save from close range as the Chelsea man fires in a shot from inside the box after he was played in. 50'- Fred threads a ball through to Ramires who fired in a low cross with Oscar waiting in the middle to tap the ball inside the bet. But Neuer stretches out and cuts the cross. 48'- Maicon floats in a lovely ball from Brazil's right. But Hulk can't get on the end of it. Good solid defending by Germany. 46'- The second half is underway.. Boos ring inside the stadium as the ref blows the half time whistle. Germany have put 5 past Brazil in less than 30 minutes. Klose got his world record beating 16th World Cup goal. This is a scoreline none of us would have seen coming. The game is almost over now. It only remains to be seen whether Germany sit back now or continue to attack. 45'- HALF TIME: Brazil 0-5 Germany 42'- Final ball has been disappointing by Brazil whenever they have managed to get into good positions. Fred has not been involved in this game at all. 40'- Oscar has the ball on the left. He cuts inside and fires in a curling shot. But his effort is blocked by the first defender. Brazil come again. 37'- Manuel Neuer has been a virtual spectator in this game. Not a shot on target that he has had to save. Incredible! 35'- Not even the Brazil fans inside the stadium know what has hit them. David Luiz and Dante have not been in sync from the minute this game started. 33'- This has to be the most shocking bit of defending one has ever witnessed. Brazil defense is absolute shambles. 29' - GOAL! KHEDIRA Germany cut open Brazil and have three players up front. They play around the ball and cut the ball back to the open Khedira who slots the ball into the bottom low corner. 26'- GOAL! KROOS Brazil are opened up again by Germany. Kroos plays it Khedira who unselfishly plays the ball back to Kroos who scores his second of the match. 24'- GOAL! KROOS Ozil finds Lahm on the right who fires in a dangerous ball. Kroos blasts in the ball with a left footed volley. 22'- GOAL! KLOSE! Kroos after capitalizing on a defensive error, played in Muller who came in from the right. Muller laid the ball off to Klose whose shot was parried away by Cesar. The rebound fell to Klose again and he didn't make another mistake and slotted the ball inside the back of the net. 20'- Khedira plays a give and go with Klose outside the box. The striker shifts the ball on his left foot and fires in a weak left-footer. The ball rolls into Cesar's hands. 18'- So far this has been an open game. Brazil have not been subdued after they let in the first goal. They continue to attack and press forward. Germany may just hit them on the counter. 16'- Hulk was through on goal on the left in the box. Lahm executes the most precise and measured tackle to prevent him from getting the shot away. Brazil players surround the ref for a penalty. Some pushing and shoving between the two sets of players. Ref is unmoved and gives a corner. 14'- Thomas Muller becomes the second player to score five goals in two consecutive World Cups. The first was of course his current striking partner - Miroslav Klose. 12'- Muller with his 5th goal of the tournament and surely the easiest one. He could not believe his luck there. 11'- GOAL! MULLER! Kroos with a delivery off a corner has Muller left open and unmarked. The German side-steps the ball into the net. Shocking defending from Brazil. Germany score off their first corner. 9'- Luiz with a glorious ball finding Hulk who can't take down the crossfield diagonal ball on his first touch. 7'- Cross comes in from the right for Germany. But the ball misses everyone and falls to Ozil on the left. The Arsenal man spots an open Khedira and finds him. The volley of the Real Madrid man is blocked. 4'- Hulk has the ball near the byline. He crosses the ball but fluffs at it. The weak ball is cut out by Neuer before Bernand can reach it. 3'- Marcelo takes the first shot of the match. His attempt from outside the box is dragged across the face of the ball and goes out of the far post for a goal-kick. 2'- Oscar takes the corner, but his delivery is easily headed out by the German defense. 1'- First corner of the match awarded to Brazil As Fernandinho's cross is blocked by Schweinsteiger. 1'- Germany to get this match underway. They are playing in their red and black jersey. Muller and Kroos on the ball. Here we go.. Julio Cesar and David Luiz hold Neymar's jersey as they sing the national anthem. They want to do this for their golden boy. Time for the national anthems of both countries. German anthem followed by the host nation Brazil's. Huge responsibility on Bernard. The Shakhtar Donetsk midfielder has the daunting challenge of replacing Neymar. As of Dante, he will know this Germany team better than most. Six of his Bayern Munich teammates start for the Germans. Brazil and Germany have met just once in a World Cup. That was the final of the 2002 edition. Brazil won 2-0. The big news so far is Bernard takes Neymar's place, while Dante gets his first game of the World Cup as he comes in for the suspended Thiago Silva. Brazil will be without Neymar after he suffered a broken vertebra in the quarterfinal against Colombia. Captain Thiago Silva picked up his second yellow card in that match and will have to sit this one out as well. In his absence, David Luiz will wear the captain`s armband. Dante is expected to replace Silva, while Willian will have the daunting task of taking Neymar`s place. Germany have lost Shkrodran Mustafi for the remainder of this tournament after he picked up a thigh injury against Algeria in the Round of 16. Per Mertesacker missed the last game against France due to a viral flu. He will undergo a late fitness test. Miroslav Klose who started the last match will go back to the bench. Mario Gotze is expected to take his place. The atmosphere is expected to be emotionally surcharged as the team have said they want to win the World Cup for Neymar. The partisan crowd will get behind their side more than ever and act as the 12th man. Germany have not been tested so far. This may well turn out to be their first big test. When the two teams met last time in a World Cup match, it was a final in 2002. Brazil ran out 2-0 winners. Germany have made every semifinal since 2002. This is Loew`s second semifinal as head coach. Scolari on the other hand is not new to the big occasion. This is his second semifinal with Brazil and third overall as he got Portugal to this stage in 2006.
