Shaw doubtful for England with cold

Left-back Luke Shaw could miss England`s last pre-World Cup friendly on home soil against Peru on Friday after developing a cold, manager Roy Hodgson revealed on Thursday.

Left-back Luke Shaw could miss England`s last pre-World Cup friendly on home soil against Peru on Friday after developing a cold, manager Roy Hodgson revealed on Thursday.
"There are no injury concerns. Unfortunately, yesterday (Wednesday) Luke Shaw developed a slight cold," Hodgson told a press conference in Watford, 20 miles (32 kilometres) north of London. "Obviously we`re very cautious. He travelled down separately and didn`t train today. "I couldn`t tell you if he`ll recover for tomorrow, but it`s a very minor issue. We won`t know until tomorrow morning." Shaw, 18, made his England debut in a friendly against Denmark in March and was named in Hodgson`s 23-man World Cup squad ahead of 33-year-old Chelsea left-back Ashley Cole, who subsequently retired from international football. Defenders Phil Jagielka (hamstring) and Phil Jones (shoulder) and midfielder Jack Wilshere (foot) are all in contention to face Peru at Wembley despite recent spells on the sidelines. England travel to Miami after Friday`s match, where they will play further warm-up games against Ecuador and Honduras. Hodgson`s side open their World Cup campaign against Italy in the Brazilian city of Manaus on June 14 and will also face Uruguay and Costa Rica in Group D.
