New Delhi: For some, this beautiful game of football is certainly not a soft one. In its long history, football has witnessed a complete range of human expression, in it`s myriad forms. Scoring a goal, creating a perfect assist or producing heart-stopping stops, and then a desperate lunge, a late tackle or a bite, these are some of the things we got to see during a play.
Known for his antics and superficial dives, Luis Suarez one again found himself biting another human being during the Uruguay-Italy match of the 2014 FIFA World Cup. This time, the victim is Italian centre-back Giorgio Chiellini. It`s the Liverpool players third attempt to make a meal out of a fellow player.
Following his infamous goal-line handball against at the 2010 FIFA World Cup, Suarez bit Otman Bakkal of PSV Eindhoven as a Ajax player. After serving a seven-match ban, he arrived in England as one of the best strikers in the world. During a Premier League game for Liverpool, he for the second time, bit Chelsea`s Branislav Ivanovic. The English FA handed a 10-match suspension.
For the Chiellini biting, FIFA has already opened a disciplinary proceedings against the 27-year-old player and faces a lengthy ban for 24 matches or upto two years if he is found guilty. FIFA said that it would “gather all the necessary elements in order to evaluate the matter”.
Giorgio Chiellini said that “It was clear-cut. It was ridiculous not to send him off.” Interestingly, despite all the controversies, Suarez was voted PFA and Footballer Writers’ Association footballer of the year for an impressive season with Liverpool. And many had thought that Suarez's a reformed person, until his dig into the Italian defender.
