Sport Club Corinthians Paulista is one of the most widely supported clubs in the city of Sao Paulo. Despite being one of the top three clubs in the city, they did not have a stadium that had the requisite world class infrastructure to host a World Cup match. Hence the Arena de Sao Paulo has fulfilled the dream of Corinthians faithful as a new stadium was built for the 2014 FIFA World Cup.
The project to build this stadium was undertaken in Itaquera in the Eastern Zone. This zone has not seen much development in the recent year and the new stadium is bound to boost the much needed infrastructure here. During the process of building this stadium, a lot the Sao Paulo youth were given employment as the entire project required a manpower of about 6000.
The Arena de Sao Paulo will have the distinction to host the Opening Match of Brazil 2014. During the course of the event, this stadium will host a total of six matches, only one less than the Maracana. It has the capacity to accommodate around 62,000 spectators.
