Kolkata: The refurbished Yuba Bharati Krirangan here is now ready ready to host Lionel Messi & Co for their international friendly against Venezuela on September 2, sports minister Madan Mitra said on Monday.
Talking to reporters at a programme on the 106th birth anniversary of hockey legend Dhyanchand here, Mitra said the revamped stadium is their biggest gift on the occasion of the National Sports Day.
"The stadium is all set to welcome superstar Messi. I was there supervising the work personally since morning and it`s ready now," Mitra said.
"History will be written at the all-new Yuba Bharati Krirangan on September 2. Never before an official competitive football match involving such high quality players has happened in India," he said.
The stadium is all lit up and the minister said it would be handed over to the organising authorities (Celebrity Management Group) in the midnight.
Power minister Manish Gupta would inspect the stadium in the evening.
"We have to ensure that there is no power failure during the match. To ensure everything is foolproof, the minister will be inspecting the stadium personally."
