Can India bring back glory days of hockey? India are the most successful hockey nation in Olympic history but the game has been in steady decline in recent years and hit a nadir when India failed to qualify for the Beijing Games.

Another embarrassment could be the last nail on the coffin. However, Indian captain Bharat Chetri believes India can bring back the lost glory and the first step would be qualifying for London Olympics.

He said if the Indian team keeps doing well, parents too will encourage kids to play hockey. After all, it`s our national game. Also, there are other views blaming cricket for hockey’s decline.

What do you think is the exact root cause for the decline of hockey in India? Do you think India can bring back the lost glory?

Have your say….

the joachim carvalho headed indian team, that failed to qualify in 2008, too was showing promise of reviving the lost glory. but, the defeat against england proved disaster and as a result, the great coach carvalho was shown the door. now, michael nobbs has given a new dimension to the indian hockey... but, imagine what would have happened if india had lost the final match of the qualifiers... our administration would have found plenty of loopholes in nobbs` strategies and claim that indians are not suitable to speed plays... blah blah... and finally, for god`s sake please don`t blame cricket for the lack of support on any other sports.. it`s just unfair..

its not fare to blame cricket for the decline of hockey. it is the governing body of hockey in india as they have failed to nurture & popularize this game in india. bcci has made the primary structure of cricket much strong which attracting the new players towards cricket.
