Nainital: Close to 1400 golfers are expected to feature in the 10th Governor`s Golf tournament, which would be inaugurated by Uttarakhand Governor Dr Aziz Qureshi at the Raj Bhavan here on Friday.
The three-day tournament would be held at the picturesque golf Course of the 200-acre Raj Bhavan campus, said a release from Rajbhavan .
Raj Bhavan Golf Club Vice President and Principal Secretary to the Governor, Ashok said Uttarakhand had always been the centre of attraction for tourists and adventure-lovers from the country and the abroad due to its scenic locations and clean environment.
Ashok said the objective of holding this tournament was to encourage sports and related activities, provide a platform to sportspersons from outside and local participants and create awareness about and popularize the historic Golf Course of Raj Bhavan at Nainital.
Talking about the growing popularity of the tournament over the years, he said this year, 1375 golfers from Jamshedpur, Shillong, Pune, Ahmedabad and various other parts of the country had registered themselves for the event.
SIDCUL, ONGC, Uttarakhand Tourism Development Corporation, Max Healthcare, Trident Group of Companies and UB Group are among the prominent sponsors of the tournament.
The event will close on Sunday 3 with the Governor giving away awards to winners.
