Gangjee shoots steady in third round, stays in top

Rahil Gangjee played it steady to stay tied 10th after the third round of the Rex Hospital Open.

Raleigh: Rahil Gangjee played it steady for a two-under 69 to stay tied 10th after the third round of the Nationwide Tour`s Rex Hospital Open at the TPC Wakefield Plantation course here.
The 33-year-old Kolkata golfer is playing his rookie year on the Nationwide Tour after seven years on Asian Tour, where he has one win. Gangjee has a total of eight-under 205 after three rounds. On Saturday, he had three birdies and no bogeys till he came to the par-four 17th. He dropped his lone shot of the day on the 17th and ended with a two-under 69 that kept him at tied 10th place for the second straight day and in running for his best finish on the Nationwide Tour.Gangjee birdied the sixth, ninth and 12th and his bogey came on the 17th, as he found 11 of the 14 fairways, but needed 30 putts as against 25 during his 66 on the second day. Troy Kelly took advantage of the soft conditions as he shot an eight-under 63 to move to 12-under 201 and shared the lead with Ryan Armour (67) and Martin Flores (68). Danny Wax, (67), Kyle Reifers (67) and Kyle Thompson (68) shared the fourth place, one stroke back heading into the finale.The weather on Sunday suggests there may be storms and the officials have moved up the tee times and the final round will be played in threesomes and from both first and 10th tees. Last year the final round could not be completed because of thunderstorms with the winner being declared on third round standings. PTI
