Indian trio misses cut at Gleneagles golf tourney

Perthshire (Scotland): None of the Indian golfers in fray could break par in the second round resulting in all three of them missing the midway cut at the Johnnie Walker Championships at Gleneagles.

Shiv Kapur missed it by one stroke, while Jeev Milkha Singh and Gaganjeet Bhullar missed it by a fair distance in the European Tour event.

Kapur carded 72 and 73 for a total of one-over 145. Jeev (75-73) and Bhullar (75-79) were further down the leaderboard.

Kapur dropped a costly late bogey on 15th and then needed two birdies in the last three holes, but managed just one on the par-five 18th to miss the cut by one.

Jeev had three bogeys on the front-nine and a double on the back-nine on the 15th hole. The two birdies on 14th and 16th were never really enough to ensure a longer stay at Gleneagles.

Bhullar had 75 and 79 and faltered badly over the middle as he had four bogeys from seventh to 10th.

Spaniard Ignacio Garrido made his move late on the second day to claim the outright lead. Having managed three birdies on the front-nine, he had birdies on the 11th and 17th to make up for two bogeys.

It was enough for a 69 and gave him a one-shot lead at eight-under at the halfway stage.

Lorenzo Gagli (68), Thomas Bjorn (69), Peter Lawrie (69) and Englishmen Kenneth Ferrie (69) and Mark Foster (71) form a five-strong chasing pack one shot behind Garrido.
