Reno (USA): Jeev Milkha Singh carded a topsy-turvy even-par 72 to be tied for the 40th spot after the
opening round of the PGA Tour`s Reno-Tahoe Open golf tournament here. Jeev slotted four birdies against a couple of bogeys and a double bogey in the opening round of the USD 3.5 million event. The other Indian in fray, Shiv Kapur was a couple of strokes adrift at tied 50th after dropping four bogeys and a double bogey against five birdies. Jeev was off to a fine start as he picked up birdies on the first and second but a bogey on the sixth left him one-under at the turn. The back-nine was a roller-coaster affair as his couple of birdies early on were negated by a bogey and a double bogey in the closing stages of the round. Kapur was equally erratic and let it slip despite picking up as many as five birdies. At top of the heap, American Matt Bettencourt took the sole lead with a six-under 66 while his compatriot Chris DiMarco occupied the second spot with a 67 in the opening round. PTI
