Mickelson to take on Westwood and Kaymer in Abu Dhabi
Next year`s Abu Dhabi Championship will feature three of the world`s top four players after Phil Mickelson agreed to make his first competitive appearance in the Middle East.
World number four Mickelson will join top-ranked Lee Westwood and number three Martin Kaymer in the $2.7 million tournament from Jan. 20-23.
The event offers the richest purse in the European Tour`s four-week `Desert Swing` which also includes the Volvo Golf Champions in Bahrain, the Qatar Masters and the Dubai Classic.
"The Arabian Gulf is now established as an important part of worldwide golf and the Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship is a centrepiece of the sport in the region," four-times major winner Mickelson said in a news release on Wednesday.
"I understand the course and hospitality are among the best anywhere so I`m really looking forward to my first trip out there," added the American left-hander.
Twice Abu Dhabi winner and world number seven Paul Casey has also confirmed his participation.
