Modest start by Gangjee in Nationwide tourney

Kansas (USA): Rahil Gangjee was unable to build on a good start and carded a modest three-under 68 in the opening round to lie tied 52nd at the Midwest Classic in on the Nationwide Tour.

The Kolkata golfer, playing his first season on the Nationwide Tour, struck five birdies against two bogeys.

Gangjee birdied the fourth, fifth, seventh, 16th and 18th holes, but dropped bogeys on the 11th and 13th.

JJ Killeen, who has already won twice and is looking for a third title to earn a battlefield promotion to the PGA Tour, shared the lead with Nicholas Thompson, Travis Hampshire and Brian Vranesh after all of them turned in eight-under 63.

Will Dodson and Chris Thompson, who came through Monday qualifiers, shot seven-under 64s at the Nicklaus Golf Club at Lions Gate.
