Sahalee to host 2016 Women`s PGA Championship

Harrison: The PGA of America and LPGA announced on Saturday that Sahalee Country Club near Seattle will host the 2016 Women`s PGA Championship.

Sahalee has played host to the 1998 PGA Championship and the 2010 US Senior Open.

The only other US women`s major championship to be contested in Washington state was the inaugural US Women`s Open in 1946 in Spokane.

Next year`s edition of the WPGA Championship will be held June 9-12.

The announcement by the LPGA and PGA of America comes on the third day of the 2015 WPGA Championship -- the collaboration between the two bodies that has seen the LPGA Championship women`s major re-branded, with the involvement of the PGA of America leading to increased prize money and, the women`s tour hopes, a higher profile.

"Sahalee Country Club has a proven record of excellence in hosting major championships and we anticipate that it will be a spectacular setting for spectators as well as millions of viewers worldwide," said Derek Sprague, president of the PGA of America -- the body whose competitions include the PGA Championship men`s major as well as the Ryder Cup.
