Shiv Kapur misses cut at Castello Masters
Valencia (Spain): Shiv Kapur, fighting to save his card on the European Tour, suffered a setback as he missed the halfway cut at the Castello Masters on the European Tour.
His modest first round 72 was followed by a 73 that led to him to missing the cut by two shots.
Kapur, starting on the tenth had a bogey on 11th, but he made up for it with a birdie on 15th. But a double bogey on 16th followed by bogeys on 17th and 18th saw him turn in three-over. Not even two birdies on the second nine on first and eighth could save him.
Local favourite, Sergio Garcia shot a eight-under 63 to move into the halfway lead and put himself in position to win his first title in almost three years.
The event is being played at the Club de Campo del Mediterraneo course where Garcia has played since his childhood.
The superb round took him to 12-under par at halfway and gave him a two-shot lead over Swede Alex Noren, who also shot 63 as he is now seeking his third win of the season.
Garcia was placed outside top-75 in the world but has come back to 49th with top 12 finishes in last three Majors.
Noren won the Saab Wales Open in June and then a month later took his home Nordea Masters by seven -- despite a closing 77.
