Jamshedpur: Professional golfers of the country will vie for top honour at the 9th Tata Open Golf tournament beginning at Beldih and Golmuri golf course here on thursday.
Noted golfers including defending champion Gurki Shergill, Ashok Kumar, Shamim Khan, who was the runners-up of Tata Open and PGTI tour championship in the last edition, Vijay Kumar will take part, among others, in the Rs 50 lakh prize money five-day long championship, said H M Nerurkar, Managing Director of Tata Steel, here on wednesday. Addressing a press conference, Nerurkar said Tata Steel has reconsidered the prize money and decided to enhance it to Rs 50 lakhs this year from Rs 20 lakhs. The increased money will help attract good professional golfer to compete in the championship, he said. The championship will be preceded by Pro-am on November 17, he said. PTI
