Thailand`s `Big Dolphin` hoping to make a new splash

Bangkok: Once Thailand`s brightest prospect, Prom Meesawat is working his way back to full fitness after struggling with a long-term injury and weight problems.

Prom, dubbed the "Big Dolphin" because of his chunky physique, said on Monday he was ready to return to the top flight after recovering from tendon trouble in his left shoulder.

"It was caused by playing so much golf and probably not swinging the correct way." said Prom, who turned professional in 2004 after a superb amateur career.

"I work with a physio every week in Bangkok. Now I am 95 percent but the other five percent is important."

Two years after turning professional, Prom underlined his early promise by winning the SK Telecom Open in South Korea, only for injury to halt his progress.

With the help of his father Suthep, who in 1991 became the first home player to capture the Thailand Open, Prom showed that he is close to rediscovering his old form by finishing joint 15th in a regional tour event in Pattaya last week.

"I have been very upset (at my form) the past two years," said Prom, who finished 60th on the Asian Tour money list last year before deciding to focus on his rehabilitation.

"I feel more confident in my game now. My game is a lot better compared with the last 18 months.”

"I have lost five to 10kg recently. I am not looking at the scales until next month. I am aiming for 100kg!"
