National Hockey League: Panthers acquire Jagr for playoff push

Jaromir Jagr is headed to the Florida Panthers, who hope the Czech veteran can boost their push for a National Hockey League playoff berth.

The Panthers acquired Jagr on Thursday from the New Jersey Devils in exchange for a pair of NHL Draft picks.

Florida are post-season contenders, entering play Thursday only tBoston Bruins wo points behind the for the second wild-card spot in the NHL`s Eastern Conference.

They are trying to reach the Stanley Cup playoffs for just the second time since 2000.

Jagr had 11 goals and 18 assists in 57 games this season for the Devils.

The 43-year-old ranks fifth all-time in league history with 1,784 points and sixth with 716 goals.

Jagr won two Stanley Cup titles with Pittsburgh in the 1990s and helped the Czech Republic win Olympic gold at Nagano in 1998.

In January, Jagr posted his first hat trick in almost nine years, becoming at the age of 42 the oldest player in NHL history to net three goals in one game.
