Olympics 2016: I will be in Rio to support Indian boxers, says Vijender Singh

Only three Indian boxes have made the cut for Rio Olympics.

New Delhi: Sole Indian professional boxer Vijender Singh on Tuesday promised that he will be in Rio to support the Indian pugilists during the biggest multi-sporting event - Olympics.

“I am very much going to Rio on my own accord to support the Indian team,” Vijender told CNNNEWS.

Only three Indian boxers have made the cut for Rio Olympics -- Shiva Thapa (bantamweight), Manoj Kumar (light welterweight) and Vikas Krishan Yadav (middleweight).

Emotional Vijender, who is the first Indian boxer to win an Olympic medal for the country during 2008 Beijing Olympics, also stated: “Though I'm competing in professional circuit, I'm still an Indian representing the country.”

While talking more about Pro boxing, the Bhiwani-born boxer said: “It's is a different ball game all together, I have had to make many changes.

“Skillset, footwork, defense – everything is very different in pro-boxing. I'm not perfect, i just put my head down and train and learn everyday.”
