London Olympics 2012: Is Carl Lewis jealous of Usain Bolt?Zeenews Sports Bureau

London: After achieving the sprint double and sealing the ‘legendary status’, Usain Bolt hit back at former American sprinter Carl Lewis, who earlier pointed finger of suspicion against the Jamaican sprinter, saying he has no respect for Lewis.

"I`m going to say something controversial right now, Carl Lewis - I have no respect for him," Bolt said. "The things he (Lewis) says about the track athletes, it`s really downgrading for another athlete to be saying something like that about other athletes,” he added.

The 25-year-old replaced American legend Carl Lewis as the most successful sprinter in history by winning the 100m gold on Sunday and went on to cruise to victory in 200m with a time of 19.32 seconds in front of a capacity crowd at the Olympic Stadium. Lewis had won three golds and a silver in the sprints at the 1984 and 1988 Games.

Bolt had who won both the 100 and 200 in world record times in Beijing four years ago.

Bolt dismissed Lewis as somebody who is seeking attention and said he was hurt by the American’s comments. "I think he is just looking for attention really because nobody really talks much about him. It was really sad for me when I heard the other day what he was saying, it was upsetting,” he said.

"So, for me, I`ve lost all respect for him, all respect. It was all about drugs, about drugs stuff for me. For an athlete to be out of the sport saying that was really upsetting for me. As far as I am concerned he is just looking for attention."

When Usain Bolt claimed triple-gold in Beijing Lewis was quick to point the finger of suspicion at him and Jamaica in general. "I think there are some issues," he said at the time.

Even after Bolt won his second 100m title, Lewis`s congratulations were wrapped in barbed wire.

"He repeats and he`s tremendous and he`s the second person to do it and congratulations," he said last week. "The thing for me, what I really admire about anyone, is longevity. We still have to have the longevity and dominance through the era because for me performance-wise, you really have to put longevity in.”

I`ve heard several insults hurled at Bolt and Jamaicans in general because we are third world. Does this justify the reasons for verbally abusing us? Every action begets an equal reaction. Jamaica is the best country to live...Jamaica NO...PROBLEM...

Lewis`s comments are just a disgrace. He`s jeallos to see the fastest man on Earth who is not an American. Does he question all the medals and records of M. Phelps ? I don`t think so. He just tries to justify his positive testing in the past. What about M.Jones cheating ? Lewis you should look into your house prior to accuse other people`s accomplishments.

I think he is jealous. Why is it that if you are not American, plus you come from a poorer country something is wrong. He should keep his mouth shut or get prescriptions to treat his verbal diarrhea.

Carl Lewis` approach to this was ``cheap shot`` low and stupid and shows a lack of thinking on his part as well as arrogance. I`m sure many of us are suspicious, fair enough. I admire Bolt`s accomplishment but not his self-glorification. But for a former Olympic athlete, who is supposed to be a mature role model, to hurl vomit like this at Bolt is a cheap shot. If Bolt is ``dirty`` it will come out sooner or later. But Carl is making himself appear as if he were envious of Bolt. We still celebrate Jesse Owens and Johnny Weismueller decades after they`ve passed away because of their humility and down to earth personalities. Carl Lewis is likely going to be forgotten again.
