Sao Paulo: Brazilian legend Pele feels there is still some way to go before the national team could land their first Olympic medal. He criticized the team after their 2-0 loss against Mexico, saying they "are not ready” for the Olympics in London in August.
"I think it`s good this (defeat) happened as it does away with the feeling that this is a marvellous team, that it`s doing fine," Pele said. "It is a good team, with good players but not yet ready to overcome difficulties when they arise.”
Pele also criticised Neymar for his style of play saying, "He stays stuck out there on the left but that doesn`t just happen in the national side but also with Santos."
Earlier, Mexico ended a run of eight consecutive friendly wins for Brazil with a famous 2-0 victory at Cowboys Stadium.
Giovani Dos Santos opened the scoring against what is believed to be the Brazilian side that will start this summer`s Olympic Games with a fortuitous chip. Javier Hernandez then added the second from the penalty spot after some slack defending from the Selecao. From then on Brazil struggled to forge opportunities to score and the Mexicans remained watertight at the back to secure the win.
