London Olympics 2012: US gymnast McKayla Maroney’s Olympic pout goes viral

New York: US gymnast McKayla Maroney has become the focus of a new Tumblr account for her now famous pout on the podium, after winning the silver medal in the individual vault competition at the London Olympics.
Maroney was the hot favorite to win the gold in Sunday’s event before slipping and falling on the landing in her second attempt at the difficult Amanar vault. The Tumblr account titled ‘McKayla Is Not Impressed,’ features dozens of images of Maroney photo shopped onto scenes or pictures that many would regard as monumental or impressive, including the Situation Room during the storming of Osama Bin Laden’s compound, Curiosity’s first picture of Mars and an astronaut landing on the moon. According to the Wall Street Journal, the account was started by 28-year-old Gavin Alaoen, a New York-based digital designer, the New York Post reported. The account has over 1,000 followers since it began on Wednesday. “It’s just a two-or-three-week kind of thing,” Alaoen said. “It’s a hot topic right now. And then it’s onto the next one.” Maroney herself acknowledged the existence of the Tumblr account, and ironically, she was “kinda” impressed. “This tumblr is kinda funny, made me laugh,” she tweeted. Maroney did make the distinction that she was mad at her performance and not the awarding of a mere silver. “It wasn’t the silver that I was disappointed about, I was just disappointed in what happened and how I performed,” she told NBC’s ‘Today’. “I really wanted to be able to hit both my vaults but I ended up falling on my second one. I was just disappointed with myself, not the silver medal. “I mean it’s amazing to even be here and be on this team and compete for USA. So that [winning silver] definitely wasn’t what I was disappointed about,” she said. ANI
