2012 London Olympics, Day 1 HighlightsLondon: Boxing: Vijender Singh moves into the round of 16 defeating Danabek Suzhanov 14-10 on Saturday.

ROUND 3: Vijender 14: 10 Suzhanov

Final round, good straight left landed by Vijender, Suzhanov comes forward and Vijender lining up the right hander from a long range, not successful.

Good right hand again by Vijender, then left-right combo by Vijender, Suzhanov counters with right.

Vijender looks a bit tired but Vijender hangs on and raises his arm after the final ring.

ROUND 2: Vijender 9: 7 Suzhanov

Second Round underway, both boxers choosing to be at the center of the ring, body blows by Vijender, Suzhanov not moving well. 3 punch foray by Vijender but not successful. Left hook by Suzhanov, point for the Kazak.

Upper cut by Vijender and a point in the final minute. Vijender has been more active in both these rounds. Couple of shots after the bell and after Round 2, it is 9-7 for Vijender.

ROUND 1: Vijender 5: 4 Suzhanov

Boxing: Hard right hand driven right into the body of Suzhanov by Vijender in the final minute. 5-4 the round to Vijender.

And it is Vijender who starts off as the aggressor in round 1 and he gets a point over Suzhanov with a left hook. Low right hand and a left hook by Vijender.

Good exchange, Vijender gets a point with right and Suzhanov with a left.

Vijender is in Red and a roaring reception to the 2008 Beijing Olympics bronze medallist.

Gymnastics: Great Britain have qualified for the men's team gymnastics final, with Russia coming second.

Fencing: Italy clean sweeped taking gold, silver and bronze in the Fencing Individual Foil competition. Valentina Vezzali was going for her historic fourth consecutive gold, but had to settle with bronze.

Swimming: Australia win gold in the women's 4x100m freestyle relay

Swimming: Ye Shiwen of China has won gold in the women's 400m individual medley.

Swimming: Ryan Lochte wins gold in the 400m individual medley followed by Thiago Pereira of Brazil silver and Japan's Kosuke Hagino. Phelps was 4th and this is for the first time in 17 finals the Phelps have failed to finish in top three.

Tennis: Sania Mirza and Rushmi Chakravarthy were knocked out in the first round of women's doubles tennis event. They lost to their Chinese Taipei opponents Chuang/Hsieh 1-6, 6-3, 1-6.

Archery: Italy won the Gold in Men's archery team event beating USA. South Korea won the bronze.

Table tennis: Soumyajit Ghosh wins his first round match 11-9, 14-12, 7-11, 12-10, 5-11, 12-10 over Brazil's Tsuboi G.

Tennis: Roger Federer had a small scare against Alejandro Falla but the Swiss maestro sealed it 6-3, 5-7, 6-3.

Badminton: Jwala Gutta and Ashwini Ponnappa lost their first match in the Group B of the Women's doubles. They lost 16-21, 18-21 to Mizuki Fujii and Reika Kakiiwa of Japan.

Boxing: Shiva Thapa lost his first round match.

Women's weightlifting: Soniya Chanu's 48kg weightlifting event is on. Soniya best lift was 74kgs in the snatch. She missed her last lift at 75kg.

Rowing: India's Swarn Singh Virk finished fourth in the heats of the single sculls event of rowing competition in the London Olympics. He will compete in the repechage tomorrow to keep his hopes of qualifying further alive. Read story here

Shooting 10m Air Pistol: India's Vijay Kumar is out of the 10m air pistol event. He next fires in the 25m rapid fire on August 2.

India's P Kashyap beat Belgium's Yuhan Tan 21-14, 21-12 in the men's singles of the Badminton event

ARCHERY: Japan qualify to the quarterfinals beating India.


India's campaign in the Olympics failed to sputter to life on day one as the mixed doubles duo of V Diju and Jwala Gutta lost their opening group game in badminton and the men's archery team was eliminated at the pre-quarterfinal stage on Saturday.

The country's bid to reap rewards on the badminton court suffered a setback when Diju and Jwala, a settled pair hunting for a medal, were beaten in straight games by Indonesia's Tontowi Ahmad and Liliyana Natsir in their opening Group C match here.

Jwala and Diju lost 16-21 12-21 in just 25 minutes at the Wembley Arena.

The Indians will take on the Danish combination of Thomas Laybourn and Kamilla Rytter Juhl in their next match on Sunday.

The top two teams from each group will qualify for the quarterfinals.
