Former coaches, parents of Ravi Kumar happy with performanceBerhampur (Orissa): Weightlifter K Ravi Kumar might have failed to put up his best performance in the 69kg category in the London Olympics, finishing on 15th position, but his former coaches and parents said they were happy with his show.

"Though he failed to bring medal to the country, I am happy over his performance," said Ravi`s mother Suryakanta here.

Ravi finished sixth with total lifting of 303kg (136kg in snatch and 167kg in clean and jerk) in his Olympic debut.

"He participated in the Olympics for the first time. This time he has gained some experience and will get a boost in the next competition," Ravi`s mother added.

The 24-year-old Ravi, who had won gold medal at the Commonwealth Games 2010, was the only male weightlifter to represent India at the London Games.

He lifted a total of 311kg (141kg + 170kg) in the Asian Championship held in April in Korea.

"We were optimistic about Ravi fetching a medal for the country as he had performed better in the practice camp at Patiala. In the camp, he had lifted up to 330kg," Narayan Sahu, the vice president of the Indian Weightlifting Federation (IWF), said.

Members of Veer Hanuman Club, from where Ravi started his weightlifting career, were also happy with his performance.
