London: It was the third round and bang came a lightning straight punch on to the face and he was down as the Excel arena crowd went wild at the London Olympics 2012.

He rose and scored some late points but his aggressive opponent had already cut him down to size. The 2009 World Champion and Beijing Olympics silver medallist Serdamba Purevdorj bowed out of the London Games losing his quarterfinal bout to a certain 20-year-old Laishram Devendro Singh of India.

Watching Devendro Singh is a delight as his nimble movements and quick punches raise the decibel levels of the crowd cheering the boxers.

When a majority of Indian population will be fast asleep, somewhere in London at the Excel arena on Wednesday this pocket size dynamo, who belongs to Manipur, will be eyeing a semifinal spot assuring his nation another medal at the 2012 Games.

India’s boxers have endured a disappointing campaign at London with only MC Mary Kom assuring it a medal in the event. Their bouts have been marred by controversies with several decisions going against them raising eyebrows.

Leaving behind the past, eyes will be set on the men’s light-fly weight(49kg) category as Devendro enters the ring Wednesday night to square off against Paddy Barnes of Ireland.

The bout starts at 1:15 am (IST). Log in to Zeenews.com for the live coverage of the event.
