London Olympics 2012 Discus throw: Vikas Gowda finishes 8th in the finalZeenews Sports Bureau

London: Vikas Gowda of India finished in 8th position in a field of 12 in Men's Discus throw event at the London Olympics with the best throw of 64.79m.

Robert Harting of Germany won gold with a throw of 68.27m. Ehsan Hadadi of Islamic Republic of Iran took silver with 68.18m throw and Gerd Kanter of Estonia clinched bronze with a season best throw of 68.03m.

FINAL THROW FOR VIKAS GOWDA. SIXTH ATTEMPT for Vikas Gowda - 63.89m

After 5 attempts Robert Harting leads with 68.27m. Ehsan Hadadi in second with 68.18m and Gerd Kanter in third with 68.03m.

FIFTH ATTEMPT for Vikas Gowda - 64.48m

After 4th attempt Gowda is in EIGHTH position in a field of 8 athletes. Hadadi still leads with a throw of 68.18m.

FOURTH ATTEMPT for Vikas Gowda - 64.15m

TOP 3: (1) HADADI Ehsan - 68.18m (2) HARTING Robert - 67.79m (3) ALEKNA Virgilijus- 67.38m.

After 3rd attempt Gowda maintains his SEVENTH position. This means Gowda will get three more throws.

Top 8 qualify for three more throws.

Ehsan Hadadi of Iran is in lead with 68.18m .

After 3rd attempt Gowda maintains SEVENTH position.

THIRD ATTEMPT for Vikas Gowda - 63.03m

After 2nd attempt Gowda is in SEVENTH position.

SECOND ATTEMPT for Vikas Gowda - 60.95m

Gowda has moved down to sixth with 2 athletes left with with first attempts in the field of 12.

The other throwers have thrown further than Vikas Gowda.

He is in 4th position now with 5 more athletes to go for their first attempt.

FIRST ATTEMPT for Vikas Gowda - 64.79m Sixth place.

There will be three attempts. Top 8 after first 3 attempts go to the next round.

Vikas Gowda became the fourth-ever Indian male athlete to have reached the final round of an Olympic event when he entered the final of the men’s discus throw after touching the 65.20m mark in the qualifications at the London Olympics. He would look to create history by reaching the podium today.

vikas played very well.you see he did not do any foul but lenth of his throw was short.He has got good arms,i think it was lack of technic which disappointed him and us.
