Wrestling: Bronze medals for Georgia and Iran Georgia`s Dato Marsagishvili and Iran`s Ehsan Naser Lashgari won bronze medals in the men`s 84 kg freestyle wrestling Saturday. Marsagishvili beat Belarusian grappler Soslan Gattsiev 3-1, registering big throws in each of the first two rounds to win the first 3-0 and the second 3-1. Farah took the lead at the bell and held it in a courageous, lung-busting final 100 meters to take gold in 13 minutes, 41.66 seconds. Russia`s Savinova wins gold in women`s 800m Russia`s Mariya Savinova took Olympic gold in the women`s 800 metres final Saturday, edging out South Africa`s Caster Semenya as the bronze also went to Russia. Savinova, the reigning World Champion, ran a time of 1 minute 56.19 and, while there was none of the record-breaking pace shown in the men`s final when Kenya`s David Rudisha smashed his own world record, there was plenty of drama. Russia`s Lashmanova wins walk in record time Russia`s Elena Lashmanova won Olympic gold in the women`s 20km race walk Saturday, beating the world record of her fellow Russian Vera Sokolova in the process. Lashmanova finished in 1 hour 25 minutes 2 seconds, ahead of another Russian from the same region of Mordovia, Olga Kaniskina, who took silver after finishing seven seconds behind her. Asgarov defeated reigning World Champion Besik Kudukhov of Russia 3-0 on points in the final, winning the first round 1-0 with a minor throw before racking up three throws in the second as he won 5-0. Handball: Spain slogs to dramatic bronze Spain beat South Korea 31-29 in a captivating Olympic women`s handball bronze medal match Saturday that needed a second overtime to decide a winner. Nely Alberto and Begona Fernandez both hit five to top score for Spain, while Gwon Han Na led Koreans with seven. Basketball: Australia thrashes Russia for women`s bronze Australia`s women dominated Russia throughout to win basketball bronze Saturday, beating the Russians 83-74. The Australians held the lead 17-16 at the end of a largely even first quarter and kept it throughout from that point on, leading 57-43 at the end of third before the Australians eased off, allowing Russia to take the fourth 31-26. Men's 4 x 100m final World record shattered as Jamaica stormed through to another gold with a record time of 36.84s followed by USA equalling the world record 37.04s to take silver and Canada, who came in third were disqualified giving Trinidad & Tobago the bronze.
