London Olympics 2012 Day 9: HighlightsZeenews Sports Bureau

So with that men's100m final we end our London Olympics, Day 9 coverage. Read on for the highlights of the day and do check out Day 10 schedule for India at the Olympics.

Men's 100m final

The marquee event of the London Olympics-men’s 100m final lived up to the hype as the defending champion Usian Bolt of Jamaica retained his title creating a new Olympic record (9.63s) beating Yohan Blake who took silver and Justin Gatlin who clinched bronze.

Justin Gatlin got a terrific start but Bolt stormed past everybody right in the middle and crossed the 100m mark with 9.63s, a new Olympic record to retain his 100m gold.

Yohan Blake finished second with 9.75s and Justin Gatlin just got better of Tyson Gay to clinch bronze with a time of 9.79s.

Women's 400m final

Sanya Richards-Ross (USA) won the Women's 400m final in a close finish with defending champion Christine Ohuruogu (GBR) coming from behind to clinch silver and DeeDee Trotter (USA) coming third in the bronze medal place.

Women's triple jump final

Olga Rypakova of Kazakistan won gold in the women's triple jump giving her country the 6th medal (all golds) at London Olympics. Caterine Ibarguen colombia finished second winning silver. Olha Saladuha of Ukraine tok bronze.

Men's 400m semi-final

Lalonde Gordon won Heat 1. Kirani James won Heat 2. In the same heat 'blade runner' Oscar Pistorius finished last. Luguelin Santos of Dominican Republic won Heat 3.

Men's 100m final

The Men's100m final line-up is like this:

The Men's100m semi-final heats are done with.

After Heat 3, Yohan Blake (9.85s), Tyson Gay (9.90s) qualified for the final and Adam Gemili qualified by place.

After Heat 2, Usain Bolt (9.87s), Ryan Bailey (9.96) qualified for the final and Richard Thompson qualified by place.

After Heat 1, Justin Gatlin (9.82s), Churandy Martina (9.91s) qualified for the final and and Asafa Powell qualified by place.

The Indian interest at Olympics for Day 9 is over with MC Mary Kom winning her pre-quarter bout and Indian hockey team suffering yet another loss being the highlights. But the Atheletics discipline has a lot to offer yet including the marquee event - Men's 100m final

The Men's 100m final is scheduled to start at 21:50 BST and 2:20 am Indian time (IST).

Tomorrow's Schedule of play for India is out

Vikas Gowda will be in action in Men's discus, Vijender Singh will Abbos Atoev in the quarters so will Mary Kom against Maroua Rahali. HOCKEY: Netherlands stun world champions Germany

The Netherlands pulled off the first major upset of the Olympic Games men`s hockey competition today when they posted a 3-1 victory over defending champions Germany to surge to the top of the pool. Netherlands posted their fourth successive victory in Pool B to move to 12 points, while Germany are on nine from four outings and South Korea have moved to six after their 4-1 victory over India. Andy Murray now has two Olympic medals

Andy Murray/ Laura Robson lost their final match in the mixed doubles event in Tennis to the Belruisan pair of Victoria Azerenka/ Max Mirnyi to take the silver medal. CLICK TO READ THE COMPLETE STORY HERE »

Indian football icon Bhaichung Bhutia wants an Olympic gold from the Indian contingent

BOXING: Mary Kom's birthday present to her twins

"It is an emotional moment for me as today is my sons` fifth birthday. I am not there to celebrate because I am fighting in the ring. HOCKEY: Players let themselves, the team and country down: Nobbs

As India contiue their poor form in men's hockey, Coach Michael Nobbs is not mincing any words critising his wards. After the 1-4 loss to Korea Nobbs said "The players have failed to perform. Sandhu 25th in trap, may miss final cut

Indian trap shooter Manavjit Sandhu finished a poor 25th among 34 competitors on the first day of men`s qualification and risks missing the final round of the event at the London Games here Saturday. Manavjit Singh Sandhu scores 22 out 25 in third round

Manavjit Singh Sandhu was a little out of form in the third round as he scored 22 out of 25 in the men's trap shooting event. Sandhu now has a total of 70 out of 75 after three rounds.

Australia's Michael Diamond is the leading scorer with 75 out of 75.

Mary Kom storms into Olympic quarterfinals

India`s M.C. Mary Kom punched her way into the quarterfinals of women`s boxing in the 51kg category at the 2012 London Olympics here Sunday. CLICK TO READ THE COMPLETE STORY»

Sandhu scores 24 out 25 in second round

Manavjit Singh Sandhu continued his good show as he scored 24 again in the second round of the men's trap shooting event.

Sandhu now has a total of 48 out of 50 after two rounds.

Tennis: Williams’ sisters win gold

Serena Williams and Venus Williams defeated Czech Republic's Lucie Hradecka and Andrea Hlavackova 6-4, 6-4 in a women's doubles gold medal tennis match at the All England Lawn Tennis Club at Wimbledon in London on Sunday.

Williams’ sisters have now won a gold medal at Olympics on three occasions.

RULE: In the first round each shooter will fire 5 sets of 25 targets, with 10 targets thrown to the left, 10 to the right, and 5 straight in each set. The shooters take two shots at each target.

Sunday promises to be an exciting day as the world awaits enthralling competition in the 100m dash where Jamaican athlete Usain Bolt, the world record holder will take field.

Also, in tennis, Roger Federer and Andy Murray will face each other in a repeat of the Wimbledon final where the Swiss claimed yet another Grand Slam title to his name gunning for the gold.

India’s MC Mary Kom will start her Olympic campaign against Karolina Michalczuk of Poland in women`s 51 kg category.

Shooter Manavjeet Singh Sidhu will also be in action in the men’s trap event.

Because you never thought of being an olympian. In India sports is not taken as a carrier & parents force students to be an engineer & doctor. If you have it do it. . Dont compare India with china where sports is taken as a carrier & every single child since birth is trained to death.
