Om Prakash Singh Karhana (men’s shot put) announced his arrival at the international stage at the Asian Championships in 2009, when he won a gold medal and defeated top Asian shot putters in the process.
He also won the Gold Medal at the Asian Grand Prix 2009 (China) and he is the youngest Indian ever to win a medal in this Championship.
He became the first Indian to win a bronze medal at the European Grand Prix in 2009.
His personal best is 20.02 meters and he is only the third Indian and youngest so far to breach the 20 meter mark. Karhana qualified for the World championships and the London Olympic Games with a personal best performance of 20.04 metres at an international meeting at Szombathely, Hungary in July 2011.
