Sports: Swimming Event: 1,500m Freestyle Gagan AP Ulalmath is the lone swimmer in Indian Olympic contingent for the 30th Olympics. He has qualified for the men’s 1500m freestyle. His qualification for the games raised many eyebrows and led everyone to question the criteria of his selection. Swimming Federation of India Secretary-General Virendra Nanavati explained that it was the prerogative of Fédération Internationale de Natation (FINA), a body recognized by International Olympic Committee (IOC), to pick a swimmer from the country who could not have any representation. Gagan had competed in the 800 m freestyle at the World championships in Shanghai last year.
