More trouble for Modi; IT probes aircraft deal
New Delhi: In yet another setback for ousted Indian Premier League commissioner Lalit Modi, the income Tax department on Wednesday found more evidence into Modi’s links to an alleged payoff to Mauritius based World Sports Group, as felicitation money.
According to sources, the IT officials are probing the former IPL boss’ links to an aircraft purchase, which was used by Modi for his personal use.
While Modi has been avoiding probe and has flown to London, sources said that his secretary Deepa Palekar has been quizzed by officials regarding a payment of 80 crore for the above said purchase.
Modi is being investigated by the IT department after they found a link to the 425 crore felicitation fee paid to World Sports Group by Multi Screen Media for IPL media rights.
The money was given as a part of re-negotiation of IPL TV rights with MSM. WSG had won the broadcasting rights for 10 years but a dispute led to WSG’s contract with MSM being scrapped.
Modi was earlier suspended after he was accused of large scale financial irregularities in the IPL bids.
