Spain`s Esteve Rabat captured his maiden Moto2 title despite finishing in third place in the Malaysian Grand Prix won by compatriot Maverick Vinales on Sunday.
Kalex rider Vinales, who also won the Australian Grand Prix last weekend, started from fourth but gained top spot midway through the race, completing the Sepang circuit in a time of 40 minutes 46.754
Finnish Kalex rider Mika Kallio took second spot, finishing 2.694 seconds behind Vinales. Pole starter Rabat came in 8.054 seconds behind the race leader.
French Caterham Suter rider Johann Zarco and Swiss Suter rider Dominique Aegerter finished fourth and fifth respectively.
Vinales is now third in the standings with 274 points, just 15 points behind season runner-up Kallio with a final race in Valencia left.
