Europe virtually finished on Formula One calendar: Ecclestone

London: Bernie Ecclestone has insisted Europe is virtually "finished" on the Formula One calendar.

The F1 supremo said Europe is likely to get only five races in the coming years as the sport goes more global.

"Europe is a good place for tourism and not much else. Europe is finished," The Sun quoted Ecclestone, 81, as saying.

He did not reveal which races would remain, but admitted there are plans to take the sport to South Africa and Mexico.

Ecclestone wants to maintain 20 GPs.
