Ferrari’s support for accused Italian sailors leaves government fuming

New Delhi: Formula One racing team Ferrari’s announcement of showing its solidarity with the two accused Italian sailors being held in India has been met with criticism from the Indian government.
The Italian team had announced on its website that its cars will sport Italian navy flag on the race day to show “to pay tribute to all the Italian Navy which is one of the excellences of Italy...”
Responding to the decision, the Ministry of External Affairs on Friday expressed its displeasure and said: “Using sporting events to promote causes not of a sporting nature, not in keeping with spirit of sports.”
